HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT:
Department of psychiatry was started in the year 2012.
Post-graduate (M.D Psychiatry) course started in the year 2022. we successfully faced the PG assessment and now it is a Post Graduate department. First PG batch was started in year 2022, opening the gates for further milestones

2. VISION:

To improve access to and quality of psychiatric services.
To improve research into all aspects of mental illness, such as etiological factors, prevention, and treatment 
To improve education in psychiatry and training for undergraduates and postgraduates.
To promote optimal conditions for good clinical practice and career satisfaction.

3. MISSION:

  • To establish the highest standards of evidence-based care for psychiatric disorders and rehabilitation
  • Develop expertise and set standards of care for psychiatric/mental illnesses of relevance in the developing world to public health
  • Human resource capacity building by training in diverse fields related to Mental Health and Neurosciences.
  • To strive to enhance an equitable level of accessibility for Mental Health Disorders in all sections of society and ages, including the vulnerable groups.
  • Promote Mental Health literacy and eliminate the stigma attached to the Mental  Illnesses

4. OBJECTIVES:

  • To assist people with mental illness in leading more productive and autonomous lifestyles, and to promote mental health through service, advocacy, and education. 
  • To effectively use pharmacological regimens, including the concurrent use of medications and psychotherapy
  • To improve upon Consultation- Liaison psychiatry (CLP) with other medical specialities for  the optimal care of patients with comorbid psychiatric and medical conditions
  • Participating in psychiatric administration to include leadership of interdisciplinary teams and a supervised experience in utilization review, quality assurance and performance improvement
  • Services shall be based upon Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) and individualized to the specific needs and desires of the patient and their families.

12. AWARENESS EVENTS
1) Suicide Prevention Awareness Programme – 17th September, 2021
At  The Oxford Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Bengaluru
The Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with The Department of Community Medicine conducted the “Suicide Prevention Awareness Programme” on the 17th of September, 2021
It was conducted in the Hospital.  Patients and students attended the event which focused on educated them regarding the burden of suicide in the society. Pamphlets regarding the myths and facts about suicide and warning signs of suicide were distributed to them.
2) Stress management and preparation for exam- 25th November,2021
At  Paloma PU College in the college auditorium for 1ST PUC and 2nd PUC students
3) “SUBSTANCE ABUSE - Mental health  Awareness Programme” on the 26th of November, 2021. It was conducted in the school premises for students of Govt primary school, Ballur village, Anekal Taluk, Bengaluru  for 100 students from 6th – 8th standard students
